Disputes turn on records, not recollection
When a deposit deduction is challenged, the question is rarely whether damage exists. It is whether you can show condition before the stay, the damage after it, and the real cost of putting it right. Hosts who document every turnover the same way walk into a dispute with the file already built.
What to have on hand
- Condition records from the turnover before the stay. Dated photos of the rooms and items in question.
- Damage records from the turnover after the stay. Dated photos, plus a note written the day you found the problem.
- Costs. Invoices or receipts for repair, replacement, or extra cleaning.
- The timeline. Check-in and checkout dates, when the damage was found, and when you raised it. Gaps in the timeline are where disputes get lost.
Consistency is the habit that pays
One well-documented stay proves little if the stay before it has no records. A repeatable turnover routine, photos, notes, and receipts filed the same way every time, is what makes any single dispute defensible. The outcome of a dispute always rests with the platform, mediator, or court looking at it; your job is to make the record complete.
StayTurn is a $39 one-time kit that keeps that routine in one place on your device and exports a date-stamped packet per stay. See the Solo kit.
